Something had nested behind the range over the winter and chewed the ignition harness to pieces — normal enough this far up the hill. He rebuilt the loom, blocked the gap they were using, and the burners spark again.

The oven took a good four minutes to catch and you could smell gas the whole time. The glow bar had gone lazy. He read the current it was drawing, fitted a new one, and it lights straight off now.
